Issue seven: May-June 2013
In issue 7, we meet the artist who opens her window to sell straight onto the street, and help you create your own memory capsules; we discover the meaning of ancient wedding traditions and grow an entire salad out of an old desk; we marvel at a menagerie of woodland creatures made from needle felt, patchwork and reclaimed materials and gain a unique insight into everyday history by collecting ephemera. Escape to the Country’s Jules Hudson shares his tips on using reclaimed materials and the Bristol Swing Dance troop show us how to Lindy Hop. A self-confessed eccentric book lady indulges in her love for the written word and we launch our Vintage Book Club. Issue four: November/December 2012
We’re particularly proud of our Christmas issue, especially our hand-stitched cover, made entirely from leftover vintage fabrics. But mainly, we enjoyed getting to the root of what Christmas means to us and many of our readers, focusing on our motto: spend wisely, waste less, appreciate more. Spending wisely is all about supporting local makers: dressing top to toe in British made fashion at your Christmas do and choosing locally made stocking fillers from independent makers; wasting less celebrates thrift: making wreaths from hedgerow finds, creating a foraged centrepiece and collecting vintage baubles. Appreciating more is all about celebrating life’s simple pleasures: comforting winter grub, mulled wine and filling your pockets with shells.
